For Minor , 1999 , 8 x 10

Traveling one morning at Schoodic Point in Maine I came across a rock band just above the receeding tide of the ocean. Had I been there

a half hour earlier the surf would have still covered it. As it turns out the timing was impeccable. As I got out of my car and began looking

around at the rock, ( which was no larger than 20' by 40' feet or so ) I came quickly to the realization that this was the exact area

where Minor White photographed his Totemic Sequence in 1969 and 1970. ( For those not familiar, it can be found in the book -

" Minor White - The Eye That Shapes" )

The images he photographed were laid out in front of me like a grand history lesson of this truly remarkable artist. Undoubtedly

one of the most amazing and powerful moments I have ever experienced. I made three images from the area. Two were carbon copies

of what Minor took and are for sentiment only, the one above I show. While it is a variation of the 9th print in his sequence,

the print you see above holds its own in terms of approach and originality and continually moves me and takes me back

to that most special of days. I still remember the feeling of being weak in the knees! We all should be so lucky in our

lives to be moved that much.
